2017 Shanghai International Marathon Competition Rules

VI Race Courses:

1. Start Line: Bund Bull

2. Finish Line of Full Marathon: Shanghai Stadium

3. Finish Line of 10km Run: Fuxing Park

4. Finish Line of Mini Marathon: Shanghai Exhibition Center

The race route passes through the Bund, Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street, Jing’an Temple, Huaihai Road, Xintiandi, Xuhui Riverside and Shanghai Stadium.

The specific courses are subjected to the race course map published before the race.

VII Period of Registration:

A. Priority Registration

Starts at 16:00. Aug.29, closes at 17:00. Aug.31. Those who do not register in time will be considered as forfeiting their priority registration opportunity. Those who are qualified of priority registration will automatically gain spots upon completion of registration and payment.

B. Elite Runner Registration

Starts at 16:00 Aug.29, closes at 17:00 Sept.4. Those who do not pay the registration fee in time will be considered as forfeiting their priority registration opportunity. Those who are qualified of elite registration will automatically gain spots upon completion of registration and payment.

C. Regular Registration

1)Pre-registration: Starts at 10:00 Sept.1, closes at 17:00 Sept.4.

2)Announcement date of ballot results: on the afternoon of Sept.11.

3) Date of Payment: Starts on the afternoon of Sept.11 (after the ballot results being announced), and closes at 17:00 Sept.13. Nonpayment will result in disqualification from the race.

D. Shangma Charity-2017 SHM Charity Entry

Registration will remain open on a first-come first-served basis until the maximum field size of 500 places is reached, starting from 16:00 Aug.29. Only full marathon is available for charity entry.

E. Second Draw

Second draw will be taken place at 10:00 Sept.14.

Date of payment: starts from 10am. Sept.14, closes at 18pm. Sept. 15. Nonpayment will result in disqualification from the race.

VIII Entry

1. Full Marathon

To participate in Full Marathon, you must be at least 20 years old before Dec. 31 of this year, and you are required to run a thorough physical checkup in a hospital certified by the state within a year, (physical examination report issued within one year should be submitted to OC when you pick up your race package), certifying that you are healthy and physically fit to run the race.

2. 10km Run & Mini Marathon

To participate in 10km Run, you must be at least 16 years old before Dec. 31 of this year. To participate in Mini Marathon, you must be at 10 years old before Dec. 31 of this year(the permission to join the race from guardians is needed), certifying that you are healthy and physically fit to run the race.

People suffering the following diseases are deemed unfit to run the race: congenital or rheumatic heart disease/hypertension or cerebrovascular disease/myocarditis or other cardiac diseases/coronary artery disease or serious arrhythmia/diabetes/pregnancy/any other risk-prone diseases.

3. The number of runners for Full Marathon, 10kn Run and Mini Marathon is limited to 28,000, 5,000 and 5,000.

4. Runners shall complete the race registration procedure according to the Notes on Registration.

5. Priority & Elite Runner Registration

Those runners who are qualified as priority entry runners and elite runners should finish their registration within required time by accessing www.shang-ma.com or Shangma app. Those who do not register in time will be considered as forfeiting their priority registration opportunity. Top 400 Men’s and top 200 Women’s half marathon entrants in 2017 Shanghai International Half Marathon.

Top 100 Men’s and top 50 Women’s entrants of challenge item in Shangma Speed X Series Under Armour The Strongest SIIC Dongtan Challenge, top 50 Men’s and Women’s entrants of Mini Marathon (Only open for 10km Run or Mini Marathon of 2017 Shanghai International Marathon).

Elite Runner Registration:

Those runners whose results of full or half marathon in 2016 Shanghai International Marathon meet required standards of each age group according to the “Implementation Measures of rating common runners’ in CAA marathons and related sports” will be listed in elite runners.

5. With an aim to create a positive sporting environment for disadvantaged groups and to promote physical fitness nationwide, the Organizing Committee will establish the 2017 Shangma Charity Platform, for those who register through charity registration will gain a guaranteed charity entry spot. All the charity registration fees will be donated to Shangma Foundation which was set under Shanghai Sports Development Foundation since 2015. Moreover, Shangma Foundation is aimed to advance the spirit of sport and raise funds to promote physical activities in socially disadvantaged groups as well as the development of mass sports and other sports causes.

Charity entry item: Full Marathon.

6. Withdrawal application

1) All the participants can apply to withdraw the race for personal reasons, the application must be submitted between 10:00 Oct.9 to 17:00 Oct.15, 2017. All of your registration fee will be returned to your payment account in 7 workdays after the application is submitted. Applications submitted after Oct.15 will not be accepted.

2) Withdrawal applications once submitted cannot be revoked, and the applicant cannot gain spot with any other approaches.

IX Rules of Race

1. The races are subject to the latest Rules of the Chinese Athletics Association and the regulation of this race. Runners will be required to take a doping test when deemed necessary.

2. Runners’ bib numbers will be arranged and distributed by the Organizing Committee.

3. All the participants must present themselves for a roll call at the starting line and assemble at the designated area based on events and bib number at 6am.Nov.12, 2017. The race starts at 7am.

4. Participants must wear the timing chips provided by OC. OC will not be responsible for any result caused by improper wearing of chips. Time record starts when runners run pass the start line, timing carpets will be set at the start line, finish line, U turn point and every 5 km. Runners must go through all the check points, and finish the race within the limit time, result will not ranked if any of the check point time is missing. Every runner should return the timing chip after the race, otherwise those who fail to return the chips will be banned for 2018 Shanghai International Marathon, Shangma Series and Shangma Speed X series.

5. Bag storage service is available for the race. You must put your small bib number which is the same as your race bib into the transparent area of the clothing bag and you should store your bag on the designated car in the start area before 6:45, and claim your bag by your bib at the clothing storage coaches in the finish area after the race before 13:30. If you fail to claim your bag on race day, please pick up your bag in designated the place by OC within 5 workdays. Those bags will be disposed after 5 days. Please don’t put your values belongings in the storage bag (e.g. cell phone, valued ID card, cash, keys, computer and mp3, etc.).

6. Drink & Supply Station.

Drink Station will be set at every 5 km. Water Station will be set at every 5 kilometers starting from 7.5km.

There will be 8 Supply Stations along the course.

Runners are not allowed to discard any cups, bottles, peel or packing bags carelessly, please throw them into designated place or give them to the OC staffs/volunteers.

7. Time limit of each race:

To ensure a safe and successful race, time limit both for the race and the transportation will be set to individually road. The social transportation will open again after the limit time. Any runners who haven’t finished the race within time limit should stop and quit the course for safety reasons. Those runners who quit the race should take escort coaches provided by OC or take public transportations to the finish area of their race items.

A. Men’s and Women’s Full Marathon:

Notes: The results of Men’s Full Marathon’s champion must be within 2:09:30, the women’s Full Marathon’s champion must be within 2:26:00. For those champions who don’t meet the standards, the awards will be reduced 50%. The awards will be given after 10 workdays of posting the result of the awarded runners on the official websiteand thenegative doping control result is confirmed.

2.Awards for breaking records

1) Award for breaking the record time of the Shanghai International Marathon: USD 10,000 (only for 1st place).

2) Chinese athletes will be awarded by equivalent RMB.

3. According to the Chinese tax regulation, 20% personal income tax will be levied on the winnings.

4. Any runners who completes the marathon within 6 hours 15 minutes will be awarded with a medal. The certificate of result will be available for self-printing on the official Shanghai International Marathon website 10 days after the race. Please download the certificate within 90 days. Results will be available to check 24 hours after the race.

B. 10km & Mini Marathon:

Participants of the 10km & Mini Marathon will not be ranked. Every runner will receive a Certificate of Participation and medal.

XI Punishment

The OC will set video surveillance in the start line, finish line and along the course,participants will be banned if they committed any of the following offence at any time during the race, results might be cancelled or the participant might be banned two years or lifetime for Shanghai International Marathon depending on the severity by OC, and report to the Chinese Athletes Association for further punishment:

⑴False age & Substitution;

⑵Carry multiple chips (including the possibility of male runner wear female runner’s chip);

⑶Complete the race in relays;

⑷False start;

⑸Not obeying the rules at the starting line;

⑹Not stop racing after time limit or going back to course after quitting;

⑺Not running on the required course accordingly, taking a shortcut or hitching a ride;

⑻Cross the finish line repeatedly or not completing the whole distance but crossing the finish line to get finisher’s packet and medal;

⑼Forge bib numbers, using other races’ bib number or previous bib numbers of Shanghai International Marthon, not wearing bib number, or wearing other races’ timing chip to finish the race;

⑽ Alter, shield the bib number

(11)Transfer the bib number to another individual;

(12) Disobey guides of staff or interfere the race;

(13) Other behaviors violates the rules.

Consequences arising during the race from enrolling by false information, transferring bib number to others and those who didn’t apply for the race shall be borne by personal involved.

XII Insurance & Medicare

1. Accidental injury insurance will be provided for all participants registered with full and correct information and staff by the committee. Full responsibilities will be taken by participants if fail to buy the insurance caused of incomplete or incorrect information.

2. Medical station with a prominent sign 50m ahead will be set along the track, including the start line and the finish line; ambulance will follow the runners along the course; volunteers and staff will be arranged in medical stations and drink stations to assist medical treatment and maintaining the race order, please ask them for help if any problem occurs.

Notice:

1. Accidental bodily injury insurance will be provided by OC.Discomfort, such as heat stroke, faint etc, caused of participant’s own illness is not under the insurance provided by the committee. So you should consider cautiously before applying.

2. Emergency treatment providedby the committeeon site is free, whereas medical fee of hospital should be on runners’ own cost.

3.If any injury or death happens due to the intake of doping by any participant, the responsibility goes to participant himself.

4.To ensure the safety of participants, referees or staffs authorized by OC have the right to terminate the runners with obvious trouble to continue the race.
