2009 “Toray Cup” Shanghai International Marathon began at 7:30 am today. More than twenty-one thousands contestants from 52 countries and regions ran against the wind in the morning. The Chinese contestant Zhao Ran and Japanese contestant Itou won the half male and female marathon championship respectively. Deputy mayor Zhao Wen presented the prizes to the winners.

Finally, Ethiopian contestant Gashaw Melese ASFAW, the top seed contestant of the race, won the male championship in 2:10:10 and successfully reigns the world championship. And Chinese contestant Wei Ya Nan won the female championship in 2:27:49.
